Krystle Stempien, LCSW

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been providing therapy services for over 9 years.  I specialize in seeing adult individuals who may be struggling with various types of anxiety.  I also work with those who struggle with their mood, experience depression, who are going through adjustment changes, have a desire to increase self esteem, learn coping skills, and/or work through personal issues that pertain to daily stress and overwhelm.  In addition, I have experience in working with trauma, grief, and loss as well.

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) approaches to help you challenge your thinking and become more mindful in your daily life.  I also utilize a person centered and strengths based approach, believing that everyone has the ability to heal, and with guidance can find answers within themselves to whatever they are facing.  I am also comfortable working from a Christian faith based perspective, if this is desired to include in your treatment.  I utilize motivational interviewing, processing events, problem solving, brainstorming, challenging perspectives, and engaging in activities, such as art, to personalize the therapeutic process.

I believe that the therapeutic rapport and providing empathy and compassion is at the core of healing.  I believe in open communication throughout the therapeutic process in order to fine tune sessions to meet your needs.  My goal is to ensure that you have tangible tools to utilize in daily life, to feel heard and valued in sessions, and to freely express yourself to process stressors.  I believe that you are the specialist on your own presenting issue.  I am honored to have the opportunity to assist and guide in ways that work for each individual, at any point in their journey of life.

Hometown

I was born and raised in Rhode Island and moved to Arizona in 2004.  Although I miss the beach, I do appreciate the difference between home and Arizona.  I love how there are more sunny days here and more opportunities, such as for fun activities.

Why I became a therapist

As a young teen, I did receive some of my own therapy to manage stressors at that time.  My therapist helped me overcome challenges to a large extent and this motivated me to want to do the same for others.

What I like to do on my day off

I enjoy creating art, going to the lake, swimming, taking care of my dog and cat, going to the park with my dog, and spending time with family and friends.  I also like to spend time at home in my free time to relax and recharge.

Favorite books, movies. shows and music

I usually wind up reading self help books as they interest me the most.  While I enjoy learning new concepts to help others, I also like to learn to help create the best version of myself as well!  I enjoy watching light hearted shows and movies such as comedies.  I usually listen to music on either end of the spectrum - energetic pop and dance music, or relaxing and calm melodies, depending on my mood.
