Women's DBT Meditation & Skills Group. Wednesdays at 12:00. Mesa
My name is Kari Thompson, and I am a graduate student in the counseling program at Grand Canyon University. I grew up in Gilbert, Arizona, and spent part of my undergraduate years living in the Bay Area. I’ve always found peace in nature—especially in places with water like creeks, oceans, and rivers. The sound of running water and birdsong is grounding for me, reminding me to pause and appreciate life’s simple joys.
I’m a proud mother of two amazing young adults. My son is 22 and recently married, and my daughter is 19 and engaged. I also share my home with two coton de tulear puppies who never fail to make me smile.
My journey into mental health began through personal experiences. My mother was a counselor, and I’ve benefited greatly from counseling throughout various seasons of my life. These experiences have shaped my belief in the healing power of a safe, reflective space.
As a future counselor, my goal is to support others as they explore and understand their emotions, build healthy coping strategies, and navigate life’s transitions. I believe counseling can foster self-awareness, promote self-esteem, and empower individuals to make meaningful and lasting change.
