Erica Jenkins, Master Clinical Intern

 Erica Jenkins, Clinical Intern

She/Her

“I believe meaningful growth happens when we feel accepted as we are while being supported in becoming who we want to be.”

My Approach to Counseling

Creating a space where clients feel seen, understood, and safe enough to show up as their authentic selves is at the heart of my approach to counseling. I believe people are capable of meaningful growth when they are given both the compassion to accept where they are and the support to explore where they would like to go.

My counseling style is warm, authentic, collaborative, and grounded in humor when appropriate. Therapy can involve difficult and meaningful emotional work, but I also believe there can be room for moments of connection, curiosity, creativity, and even laughter along the way.

I enjoy working with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, identity exploration, self-worth concerns, life transitions, stress, and relationship challenges. I am especially interested in helping clients better understand themselves, build emotional regulation skills, reconnect with their strengths, and develop greater confidence in their ability to navigate life's challenges.

I take a person-centered and integrative approach to counseling. Depending on each client's individual needs and goals, I may draw from mindfulness, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), narrative therapy, solution-focused strategies, Adlerian concepts, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I am particularly interested in the ways mindfulness, creativity, storytelling, and imagination can support healing, self-discovery, and learning to understand and embrace the different parts of ourselves.

I value inclusivity and welcome clients from diverse backgrounds, identities, cultures, and lived experiences. Coming from a multicultural family has also given me a deep appreciation for the ways our culture, relationships, communities, and identities can shape how we experience ourselves and the world around us.

Education & Training

I am currently completing my graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and providing counseling services as a Clinical Intern under supervision.

As an intern, I am continuing to develop my clinical experience while receiving ongoing supervision and training. My areas of interest include mindfulness, DBT, anxiety, identity development, self-worth, emotional regulation, relationships, and creative approaches to counseling.

Why I Became a Counselor

My interest in counseling grew from both personal experience and a desire to better understand people, mental health, relationships, and resilience. Over time, that curiosity developed into a passion for helping people understand themselves with greater compassion.

One of the things I value most about counseling is having the opportunity to meet people where they are rather than where they think they are “supposed” to be. I don't believe counseling is about becoming a completely different person. Often, it is about understanding yourself more deeply, discovering strengths you may have overlooked, and finding new ways to move through the challenges in your life.

When I'm Not Counseling

When I'm not working on my counseling degree, I am usually reading, spending time with my family, playing Dungeons & Dragons, watching anime, or getting invested in a good story. I have always loved creativity, storytelling, fantasy, and the ways stories allow us to explore different perspectives and parts of ourselves.
