Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) intensive

EMDR intensive sessions are a focused, accelerated form of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy designed to help individuals process trauma more efficiently than traditional weekly sessions.

What Are EMDR Intensives?

EMDR intensives are extended therapy sessions: typically lasting 2 to 6 hours per day. They offer a deep, immersive therapeutic experience that allows for more rapid progress in healing trauma, anxiety, depression, and other emotional challenges.

How Do EMDR Intensives Work?

These sessions follow the same structured EMDR protocol but in a condensed format:

1. Pre-Session Preparation

● Identification of target memories or emotional themes.

● Introduction to EMDR tools and safety strategies.

2. Session Structure

● Begins with nervous system regulation utilizing grounding exercises, body scans, and visualization.

● Core EMDR work using bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, or tones).

● Focused processing of traumatic memories or stuck beliefs.

● Ends with integration and aftercare planning such as journaling or breathwork.

3. Post-Session Support

● Personalized aftercare plan.

● Follow-up to assess progress and determine next steps.

Benefits of EMDR Intensives

● Accelerated Healing: Faster symptom reduction compared to weekly therapy.

● Deeper Processing: Extended time allows for more thorough exploration of trauma.

● Reduced Dropout Rates: Clients are more likely to complete treatment.

● Flexibility: Ideal for those with busy schedules or who prefer a retreat-style format.

● Adjunct to Other Therapy: Can complement ongoing therapy with another provider.

Who Might Benefit?

EMDR intensives are suitable for individuals dealing with:

● PTSD or complex trauma

● Phobias

● Anxiety or depression

● Self-sabotaging behaviors

● Recent traumatic events such as an accident or assault

● Anticipated stressors such as public speaking, an interview, or a family event.

Considerations and Limitations

EMDR intensives may not be appropriate for everyone. They require:

● Emotional readiness and stability.

● Physical stamina for longer sessions.

● A safe and supportive environment post-session.

They may not be suitable during times of crisis, severe dissociation, or significant life changes.

EMDR Intensive Sessions – Private Pay Only

EMDR intensive therapy sessions are offered on a private pay basis and are not covered by insurance. Fees range from $400 to $1100, depending on the duration of the session, which typically spans 2 to 6 hours. This format allows for focused, accelerated healing in a condensed timeframe.

Free 15 minute phone consultation to assess suitability.
